Evaluation Question 2

How Does your media product represent particular social groups?

The people in our film...

In our film two actors are featured and are males. The first character 'Daniel' is typical to the expected character of an action film, being a young male, who seems of good physical ability as he is filmed running away in a persuing chase in the opening. However he may be seen as younger than usually, being a late teenager sort of age, where as in typical action films, a male lead role is in their middle twenties. The other character who is masked can be assumed easily to be male by his posture and bodily shape. His age though is not clear but he again seems of well physical ability, as he is running too, but also whilst carrying a shotgun.

Through our characters we have represented certain social groups, which include;
  • Male dominance
  • The Young
  • People of Strong Physical Ability
The above social groupings are cleary presented in our film opening, however our opening does not touch on the sexuality, social class, or ethnicity/nationality of our characters, which could lead to a feeling of enigma surrounding our characters. However the costumes of our characters (Tracksuits&Hoodies) does lead to suggest they may be of a lower class standing, such as working class. This suggestion is only hinted though and may be a complete out of context assumption.

The way our met social groupings come across our neither shown in a positive or negative light during our film. With no dialouge, little is revealed about our characters, as our film uses enigma to draw out audience interest. Though through the obvious social groupings met, it can be commented that they are stereotypical.

  1. good start but can go further

    if they're working class/male/young - do the clothes they wear, and the things they do (i.e. chasing and fighting) portray stereotypes of these social groups? and are they positive or negative?

    the lack of females, disabled people and old people portrays a very male/able-bodied dominated society. again, is this a stereotypical view of the world often seen in media texts?

    Get images in here too, showing the characters
